Junior Sport

Term 3 Week 2

JTAS Term 3 Sport Fixtures
This Saturday 27 July sees the first round of fixtures for basketball and football. It is great to see so many of our students participating and eager to represent the College. This season we have six basketball teams and five football teams. The fixtures for teams can be found on the Canterbury App and have also been emailed out to parents.

Please note that parents and spectators cannot stand within the technical areas of football and basketball for safety reasons. These areas are designated for players and officials only. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

We wish all teams representing Canterbury College the best of luck this weekend.

South Coast Cross Country Success
Over the weekend Taylor Goodwin (Year 6) competed at the State Championships for Cross Country in Toowoomba. Taylor did exceptionally well, improving his personal best time by one minute and finishing in the top 20 (placing 15th) in what was a very talented pool of athletes. Well done Taylor.

Pacific District Athletics
On Tuesday 23 July, Elize Lee (Year 5), Mikala Fox (Year 5) and Taylor Goodwin (Year 6) represented the Beenleigh Zone at the Pacific District Athletics Trials. All three students did exceptionally well, qualifying for the Pacific District Team, and will now compete at Regional Trials next week. We wish all the athletes the best of luck at next week’s competition.
Mikala Fox - 800m and 1500m
Elize Lee - Long Jump
Taylor Goodwin - 200m, 800m and 1500m

Prep – Year 3 Sport – Mini Kickers and Basketball
It was great to see 74 students attend the Mini Kickers Football program on Wednesday 24 July. This has been the largest group of students enrolled in the football program to date. Next week the basketball program will begin for our Prep and Year 1 (Tuesday 30 July) and Year 2 and Year 3 (Thursday 1 August). All students for both programs will need to meet at the ‘snail’ in the meadow to be taken down by staff members to the training venue.

Kindy – Year 2 Interhouse Athletics Carnival
Just a reminder that the Kindy – Year 2 Athletics Carnival will be held on Wednesday 14 August from 8:30am – 11:00am. More information will be made available via email the week of Monday 29 July and the College App. Parents and spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend.
