Term 1 Week 10

Dear Parents and Carers
You will be aware that we have had a number of fire ant nests on our ovals over the last week. We have been working closely with Biosecurity Queensland to manage this situation, but our ovals will continue to be closed throughout the holiday period so we can have these ready for next term. Thank you for your patience with this as it has meant that we have had to reschedule a number of events.

I would like to thank you for all your support and feedback this term. We are proud of our initiatives and will continue to communicate and promote these within our community. Our THRASS approach to Reading, Handwriting and Spelling has started positively. Our teaching staff have really embraced this, and we have had lots of positive feedback from parents.  Our students will continue to go from strength to strength with this. Our students are also using the language from the Bridge Builders program, which has really empowered them to manage situations in a composed manner.

I would like to farewell our Head of College, Mrs Donna Anderson, who leaves Canterbury College after a remarkable 15 years of service. I have had the privilege to work with her for only a short time, but her support, guidance and leadership have been outstanding. She has left a significant imprint and legacy on the College and I know you will join me in wishing her well.

We look forward to welcoming our new Principal, Mr Daniel Walker, at the beginning of next term. He will be joining us at our Junior School Assembly on the first day of Term 2, so it will be a great opportunity for our Junior School students to meet him. Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Easter break. I hope you get some quality time to spend with your family over the break.

Bethania Haven Aged Care Easter Visit

Today the Junior School Humanitarian Captains, accompanied by Mr David Peckham, paid a visit to the residents of Bethania Haven Aged Care Facility.

The purpose of this trip was to wish the residents a Happy Easter and to deliver some gifts as part of Canterbury’s Easter appeal on behalf of Anglicare.  These gifts were generously donated by the Canterbury College community in support of this appeal.

The students were a credit to the College and spent over an hour with the residents of Bethania Haven, chatting and exchanging stories.  We would sincerely like to thank the overwhelmingly generous Canterbury families for their wonderful donations to this most worthy cause.
