Junior School

Term 3 Week 8

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the coming years Canterbury College will join a number of independent schools in transitioning our students to the National NAPLAN Online program.

As part of our preparations, we will be conducting a School Readiness Test (SRT) on 12 September to make sure everything is in place to administer NAPLAN Online.

The SRT will involve Year 4 and Year 6 students and the main objective of this test is to essentially check the College’s IT capacity, logistics and the administration process. This effectively means they will be undertaking a simulated, "Omnibus" test which is a combination of Language Conventions and Reading. We anticipate the test to take approximately one hour with no student results to be given.

We will continue to provide regular updates on our progress in the lead up to next year’s NAPLAN.

Kindilan Camp
Last week our Year 4 students and teachers travelled to PGL Kindilan in Redland Bay for their camp.  This was the first time this group students had experienced a camp away from Canterbury and their excitement was undeniable!

During the course of their three day adventure, students were given the opportunity to try a number of different activities such as canoeing, low ropes, team challenges and raft building that were all designed to assist them in further developing their independence, resilience, teamwork and communication.

The students clearly relished the experiences they have had at camp and it has been wonderful to see how they used the opportunities offered to them whilst they were away and applied these to their learning back at Canterbury.
