Junior School

Term 4 Week 8

I would like to thank our parents and carers for all of your support throughout the year. Canterbury is such a great community and I am really proud of what we have achieved in the Junior School this year. Our staff are amazing and I would like to sincerely thank them for their hard work, dedication and professionalism. They always have the best interests of your children at heart so please make sure you thank them when you see them.

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of Mr Luke Van Leuveren, who has driven our Teaching and Learning program and ensured that our students have extensive and varied learning opportunities. Mr David Peckham has organised all our events and has overseen our pastoral programs. Mr Arnie Marraiya has continued to lead all our Junior School sports and activities with enthusiasm and vision. Dr Janet Wyvill has shown great passion for our Arts program and has also been a great support during our Junior School events. Mrs Lex Nicholson has been a huge support for families and students as she has led the Inclusive Education Team. Mrs Cheryl Dalton has continued to grow the Engine Room and has supported staff and students so willingly throughout the year.

2020 has many exciting things in store for the Junior School. Our Spanish program, our Year 5 and 6 Spark curriculum and the rollout of iTime into Year 1 to name just a few. I am very excited for opportunities that our students will have next year and I encourage them to make the most of them.

I would like to congratulate our new Junior School Captains for 2020. These students have been through a process whereby they had to nominate themselves for a leadership role, present speeches to a number of Year level groups and then interview with myself, Mr Van Leuveren and Mr Peckham. It is my pleasure to announce our leaders for next year:
Captains: Cooper McIntyre and Paris Day
Vice Captains: Ryley Egstorf and Pippa Sharp
Becket Captains: Ashutosh Vaitha and Addison Alchin
Cranmer Captains: Cooper Reed and Mikala Fox
Goldsworthy Captains: William White and Charlotte Nimmo
Kime Captains: Max Newton and Rosie Groves
Ramsey Captains: Hunter Brown and Jemma Kim
Temple Captains: Lucas Noy and Elize Lee

These students have already met with Mr Van Leuveren to discuss some initiatives for next year. They were also delighted to be invited to a morning tea with Mr Walker. They are very excited and I look forward to working with them in their new roles.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe festive season. I hope you get to spend lots of time with your loved ones over this period. I am sure everyone will come back refreshed, relaxed and ready for a fabulous 2020.

Mr Bill Garland
Head of Junior School

PALA and Bunnings Fairy Garden Project

PALA have been very busy taking care of the garden we created with the help of Bunnings. We have been watering it, weeding it and visiting each day to talk to the fairies. When Bunnings heard how much we love our fairy garden, they came back out to help us make houses and furniture for the fairies. We really enjoyed making the furniture and have carefully placed it in the garden. Please pop in if you would like to see our beautiful fairy garden and all of the lovely vegetables we have growing.
