Term 3 Week 4

The last two weeks have been very busy for the College’s Secondary School students, with several events on and off-campus where they have represented Canterbury with distinction. It has been a privilege to attend several of these events and experience the connection these students have to Canterbury, and each other.

An example of this is the Year 11 Camp, from where I am writing this week's article. It is a delight to attend these events and watch our students extend themselves in many activities that they would not normally undertake. Dragon Boat Racing, Indoor Rock Climbing and Surfing to name but a few. The comradery, mutual respect and encouragement they show each other during these experiences is, and always will be, a highlight of attending these events.

Since the start of Term 3, Canterbury has been fortunate to have many international study tours visit and integrate into College life, socially and academically. During these experiences, we ask our students to escort these visitors as “Buddies” or Ambassadors of Canterbury. These students give of their time to ensure our visitors feel safe, happy and have an enjoyable experience while in Australia. I want to thank these students for volunteering and ensuring that our guests to Canterbury have memorable and personally rewarding experiences.

This week was also a busy week for our students in Year 7, 8 and 9 as they prepared to select subjects for 2020. This is a new initiative for Year 7 and 9 students, and I know they are excited about the range of unique and new subject offerings to select.
