Term 3 Week 10

TAS Trimester 3 Finals
The 2019 TAS Trimester 3 Finals were held on 14 September. The day proved to be extremely successful for our Girls Volleyball teams who walked away with 5 Premierships. Congratulations to the Year 7, Year 9, Year 10, Year 7 Navy and Year 8 and Year 9 Navy teams on winning their Premiership final. These Premierships, combined with the strong performances of the Firsts, Seconds and Year 8 teams, meant that Canterbury were crowned TAS Girls Volleyball Champion School for 2019. These outstanding results are in no small part thanks to Mr Porter, his coaching team and the exceptional Volleyball program this year.

The Girls Touch teams also brought home a number of Premierships with the Year 7, Year 7 Navy and Year 9 and Year 10 Navy all comfortably winning their Premiership games. Mr Blackmore and his experienced group of coaches have done a wonderful job with Girls Touch this year.

Boys Basketball and Football may not have won any premierships, but the signs are strong for the future. With obvious signs of improvement throughout the season, it promises to be a successful 2020 campaign. Thank you to Mr Chan and Mrs Martens for the coordination and hard work they put in this Trimester for Basketball and Football, as well as the coaches who have helped the boys develop their skills and performances.

TAS Athletics
After finishing a close second place in the last two carnivals, Canterbury went into the 2019 TAS Athletics Championships quietly confident of a strong performance. The scores between the top six schools were close throughout the day, with only a few points separating a number of schools each time an update was announced. Slowly Canterbury gained a lead on the chasing pack and then it was then a nervous wait for the final presentations. The tension was finally lifted when Canterbury were announced as TAS Athletics Champion School for 2019.

With more than 100 students representing Canterbury it was a genuine team effort that produced our overall success. It did not matter whether Canterbury athletes were vying for first place or battling it out for seventh or eighth in their event, all team members did all that could be asked of them and gave it their best effort. It was this team effort that was the most pleasing aspect of Canterbury’s performance.

A summary of Canterbury’s achievements:
• Overall Aggregate Champions
• Girls Aggregate Champions
• Girls Percentage Champions

• 15 years Girls Age Champions
